The second competition workshop took place in the first half of April, during which the Competition Jury selected five teams to advance to the Phase 2 of the competition.
The international urban design and architectural competition Kodaňská 1441, seeking a design for a new urban block in Prague’s Vršovice district to replace the existing Kodaňská 4D Center office building, has concluded its first phase. Five teams selected by the Jury on the basis of the submissions in first phase will proceed to the competition final.
In the first half of April, the second competition workshop took place, during which eleven teams from the Czech Republic and abroad presented their design concepts for the new urban block defined by Kodaňská, Kavkazská and Moldavská Streets and discussed them with the competition Jury and invited experts. During the subsequent closed Jury deliberation, the teams advancing to the second phase of the competition were selected. These teams will now further develop their proposals in greater detail based on the Jury’s recommendations.
The following teams are participating in the competition final (listed alphabetically by the lead entity):
• the Portuguese office OODA Arquitectura together with landscape architects LJ-Group, engineering company LAIII and the Czech studio Upstructure,
• the Brno-based studio Pelčák a partner architekti together with the German studio Müller Reimann Architekten,
• the Dutch studio Powerhouse Company in consortium with landscape architects Felixx International, the Czech studio Studio T-vektor and the Dutch engineering company BREED Integrated Design,
• the Prague-based studio Schindler Seko architekti together with landscape architects Atelier Rouge, transport consultancy European Transportation Consultancy and design office NĚMEC POLÁK,
• the Italian office Stefano Boeri Architetti together with engineers from ESA engineering, the British landscape studio GROSS.MAX and transport consultancy Systematica.
The competition is organized as a two-phase competition workshop, enabling direct dialogue between the Jury and the competition teams. During the second phase, the selected teams will further develop and refine their proposals. Emphasis will be placed on a more detailed elaboration of the urban design concept, the quality of public spaces, the architectural design of the individual buildings, and the overall feasibility of the proposal.
The selected competition teams are now working on the further development of their proposals, which will be submitted at the beginning of June. A third competition workshop will then take place at the end of June, during which the Jury will select the winning proposal.
The public may also become involved in the competition process. During the second phase of the competition, the public will again have the opportunity to comment on the submitted proposals, which will be exhibited both in public space and on the competition website in June this year. The comments will subsequently be submitted to the Jury as one of the supporting materials for its decision-making process.
